Yum!

I’m so excited.  This is another easy, quick, warm breakfast recipe.  Children love it and why wouldn’t they?  Let’s get right to it.

Ingredients are:

  • Biscuits:  Any kind of biscuits in a can.  The healthy version will have us making our own dough for this part with fresh ground flour, but for now, we will use the store-bought version
  • Butter (I used 1 stick for this amount)
  • Sugar (I used sucanat  which is unrefined sugar.  Either will be fine.)
  • Cinnamon
  • Cream Cheese

First, get your butter melting in a pan on your stove and preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Mix some sugar (or sucanat) and cinnamon in a bowl (as if you were making cinnamon toast.)

These were my grandmother’s dishes.  I love them and they make me want to cook.

Now we are going to get the assembly line going.  Lay the biscuits out.  This can of biscuits had 10 in it and they were small.  If they are large biscuits, I would cut them into 3rds.

Now, cut them in half with a knife. Or you could just use whatever is in your hand at the time like I did and use a spoon.  Oh, those are Stephanie’s hands.  She was showing me how to do this.

Spread a little cream cheese on them.

The cream cheese. Yummy!

Fold up the sides of the biscuit OVER the cream cheese to where it becomes a ball, then kind of roll it in your hands to make it MORE of a ball.  Make sense?  Ok, now these are my hands.

Now dip each ball in the melted butter.  I did 6 at a time in this little 7″ pan that I love so much.

Tip it around a little to coat them all over.

Then I used a teaspoon to get each one out and place it in the bowl of cinnamon sugar.

Roll them in the cinnamon sugar and place in a 13 x 9 pyrex.

Now pour the rest of your butter over the top of each of these so there is butter in the bottom of the pan.  There was exactly enough butter left.

Bake as the can of biscuits says.  Mine was 400 degrees for 12 minutes.

These were such a treat!

This recipe was given to me by our babysitter (on the right) (actually that title does not do her justice).   She has been working with us for at least 3 years since I think she was about 16.

She is what gives me hope that I can raise children that do not turn into sassy, young men and women during their teen years that no one wants to be around.  She says “yes” and “no ma’am” all the time.  She is completely respectful, on-time, and always anticipating what I need.  She has the highest moral standards of anyone her age that I know.  What a role model.  Well done Mom and Dad!

    I have been loving my browse on your blog. I have been sucked in for much too long. :) Can’t wait to hear all about the adoption. My bro is adopting from Equador. They have been waiting to get their son for 4 years. They met him when they did a short term mission trip with their two oldest – in an orphanage, and the kids said…he’s ours. It’s been such a long journey and many tears shed. Their government closed down etc. etc., but they are anticipating going this July. He’s special needs but I know he will be such a blessing. :)

    Catherine-Oh yes, the raw milk is a must! And yes “au pair” is such a better word. Her duties have changed so much over the years. Now her main job is working with our “adopted from Russia” 2 year old doing the Doman stuff (that’s a few posts right there) to help counteract any orphanage deprivation issues. So maybe she has become an Early Childhood Development Expert!

  5. Allison-I made these this morning and they were SO good! I used some Bisquick that has been sitting in my pantry for way to long. I was glad to be able to finally us that up. One question, I made way more than we could eat. Do you think I could freeze them? Or would it be better just to refrigerate and eat throughout the week?

      Hi Shawanda,

      I saved some calories by using the splenda & sugar blend which is basicly mixed half and half and still were plenty sweet enough. I used the light cream cheese and worked fine. I also didn’t use all the butter..didn’t pour the extra on top. I lined pan with parchment paper so they didn’t stick. They were still very YUMMY but a lot less fat! ENJOY! :)
