Family at our little piece of heaven outside of town.

About a year or two ago I came across a prayer in the back of a book called Protecting Your Family in Dangerous Times by Kellie Copeland-Kutz.  She is a wife and mother.  It spoke to my heart so I copied it down and put it with my regular God-time stuff that I will continue to show you as we go along.  (This picture is from our little piece of land on the outskirts of town.)

Good And Evil

It took me many, many years to realize that evil was real.  A force to be reckoned with.  In this world we have the up and the down, the wise and the foolish, the happy and the sad, the subatomic particle and the universe.  If we didn’t have one end of the spectrum, how would we ever know the other.  And so it goes….the good and the evil.

In my spiritual journey I have always known that most of our reality is in the area of what we do not see.  I mean God.  The Spirit.  The Soul, which is our mind, will and emotions.  Things like that.  And when I got into the Bible, the explanation of good and evil all started to make sense.

I finally got around to this verse (along with many others) and realized how my words and my prayers could affect the circumstances around me.  I do truly believe that.  I’ve seen too much evidence.

2nd Corinthians 10:3-5 & Ephesians 6:10-18

This is Paul talking in the New Testament.  Remember, his mission was to persecute those who followed Jesus until one day, after the crucifixion, he had an encounter with Jesus while walking down the road to Damascus and did a 180 degree turnaround.  He then became one of the most prolific writers and preachers of The Way.  It’s a fantastic story in the Book of Acts.  But here he is talking to the church of Corinth.

3For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

And how do we do that?  What weapons, exactly, do we use?  Check this verse out in Ephesians from The Message Bible.

10-12God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.

13-18Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.

So when I came upon this prayer – it resonated.  I thought, “this is a good prayer I can say regularly for my family, and stand on.”

Planting an elm tree.

Planting an elm tree.

I encourage you, if this speaks to you, to copy and paste this prayer into your computer or print it out. Fill in your family members names and stick it somewhere you will see it EVERYDAY.  A mirror, the fridge, your car, in a picture frame…..

*There is power in the Word of God.  Say it and believe it.*

The Prayer of Protection

Father, I thank You for Your covenant promise of protection.  Right now I call upon the covenant I have with You and plead the blood of Jesus over my husband, my children and me.

Angels, I charge you to watch over my family and me to protect us, for we are walking in the footsteps of Jesus.  Go before us, behind us, beside us and all the way around us.  Keep us from calamity, evil and misfortune.  Lord Jesus I speak this for Matthew, Emma, Meg, Henry, Luke, Sally, and me.

No evil will befall my family in the Name of Jesus!  No weapon formed against them will prosper, and every lying tongue that rises up against them I do condemn, for this is my heritage as a servant of the Lord.

I thank You, Father, that great is the peace of my children.  Their righteousness is of You.  They don’t walk in their own righteousness, but in Your righteousness by the blood of Jesus.  I thank You for that, Lord.  They will not get off track in life, none of their steps shall slide (Psalm 37:31) for Your Holy Spirit will guide them every step of the way.

Father, Your Word says that we, Your sheep, know Your voice.  It says You will show us things to come.  It says the voice of Your Spirit will come to us and say, “This is the way; walk in it.”  I stand on these promises, Lord, and ask that You teach us to hear Your voice.  Help us recognize when You are speaking to us, and we will obey.

Now I stand in Your holy of holies and open my spirit to receive the wisdom You have afforded me.  I put myself in a position to hear and receive instruction from You.  I enter the secret place of the Most High by the blood of the Lamb, and I purpose to live my life in Your presence.

I thank you that You are faithful to Your Word, Father.  I thank You that what You say is certain and sure.  When You say You will deliver us, we can rely on that promise.  So right now I receive Your supernatural protection and deliverance for my family and me in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Ladies, if I haven’t said this prayer on a particular day yet, and it comes to my mind, I just say some modified version of the first two paragraphs.  I read somewhere (I can’t remember where offhand) that our angels are around us and waiting to assist us, but they are hindered from doing so if we have not charged them with their duty or prayed.

I don’t know about you, but if God has angels out there ready to help, then I’m gonna do whatever it takes to have all the forces of good in my corner!  Get your family prayed up ladies,

And God Bless You!

Thank you Caroline for sharing this prayer. I am struggling with spritual powers of bondage over my husband. I believe he is under some kind of curse by this woman.
I have begun to pray this prayer over my family, in jesus name my husband and father of my children will be restored to us.
    God bless you

    • Allison says:

In Jesus’ Holy Name, I agree with you that your husband will be restored to you and your family. Im convinced that is God’s will, as the family IS his plan. Keep praying, keep the faith and know that God is working even though you might not be able to see it yet. God Bless you!!

  6. Ma says:

Thanks so much this is just what I needed, I think I am in the same situation with Sheila, I feel my husband is also on bondage and kind of tied up in his past an ‘ex millitary’ . I believe God is faithful and will not let us down.
I will save this prayer for everyday. Be blessed.

    • Amen for your faith and your belief! Keep it up! It could take a short time or a long time. We dont know God’s timetable, but we do know what His word says, so hang in there and you have agreement here that all will be restored to what God had in His plan! God bless you!

Dear Allison, I found your prayer last night while googling something to pray over my husband who has either become demon possessed or seriously oppressed. I don’t know enough about this stuff to know for sure which. I only know that he got involved in a Christ less, New Age cult about 5 years ago, began changing drastically into this angry, unforgiving, bitter, hostile, controlling, abusive person and our lives have literally become Hell on earth. We have been married for 27 years and have 9 children together. He began threatening to leave us during his first year of being a member of this cult. He would pack up and stay gone for days. Then last year he left us to move in with another cult member. He was gone for over 3 months. After 20 years of supposedly being a Christian he has completely reverted to a God less person. He talks like a sailor, smokes, listens to demonic music, has become very narcistic and only cares about what he wants and his happiness. He has come right out and told me so. He also told me he no longer believes in divorce and last February told me he wanted one. He hasn’t filed yet and is still here at home but he has these nightmares at night and when he is awake he has these fits of uncontrollable rage, like he was having last night, where every other word out of his mouth is cursing and profanity. He attacked me verbally 3 different times because he couldn’t get our copier to work. I was trying to help him but everything I did just made him angry a d he kept trying to provoke me into a fight with him. So, I came back to our bedroom to pray. These attacks scare me and I know I should be praying something over him but I don’t know what because I am not exactly sure of what it is I am dealing with. Has he become possessed? He sure seemed possessed with something evil last night. Or is he under severe demonic oppression? Is there a difference? Does that even matter to how I need to be praying for him?

I found your prayer and It does resonate but I am concerned about 2 things, 1) is it what my husband needs for me to be praying over what is going on with him and 2) several people have told me that the Bible forbids us to pray to angels or anybody else other than God (saints, the Virgin Mary, dead relatives, etc…) But you said that you were told that the angels are hindered from helping us if we don’t “charge” them and you appear to be praying directly to them in this prayer. Can you tell me where this “charging” them directly like this is found in the Bible? I’d like to study it myself but can’t find it. I would appreciate any advice and prayers on behalf of what my family is going through. Thank-you for sharing this prayer and making me think.
    Blessings,
    ~ Laura

    • Dear Laura,

First, I apologize for just not getting back to you. #1 Yes, I believe you should definitely be praying for him. No doubt about it. I would also go to your church, assuming you all have one, and talk to the elders or those you respect and tell them exactly what is going on. You need some support from outside of your family – i.e. the church. If you don’t have a church, then I would just go out and start looking for one. Go to several and you will get a sense of who you can talk to. #2 I don’t ever feel like I am praying to angels at all. In a way, I sort of think of as just saying “Get up and go guys. Time to get busy.” This was from Kelly Copeland who is Kenneth Copeland’s daughter. You could call their ministry in Texas at 817-852-6000 and they could give you some more answers and also could address the situation with your husband. God bless you and hang in there!

    Allison,
I thank you for this prayer. I have been living away from my family (my wife & 2 children) for 1 year now. Now I will spend this Christmas without them. I am always worried about them but I know God will rejoin us real soon. I thank God for giving them to me. I thank you for sharing this prayer & I pray that all those who are experiencing hard times will receive the mercy & grace of God!
